Spiritual Program Coordinator Volunteer Position

Thubten Norbu Ling is seeking dedicated, enthusiastic and qualified candidates for the position of Spiritual Program Coordinator at Thubten Norbu Ling Buddhist Center. This is a unique opportunity to serve sentient beings in a distinctive leadership role.

Thubten Norbu Ling is a member of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), a world-wide organization that provides teachings and practices of Buddhism in the Gelug tradition. The SPC must therefore have a good background in the basic teachings of the Mahayana tradition and be aligned with the mission statement of the FPMT and the teachings of our Spiritual Director, Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

The SPC is co-appointed by the Center Director and the Center Services director at FPMT International Office, and will be working with our resident teachers, Don Handrick, who has been teaching at TNL since 2005, and Geshe Thubten Sherab, an ordained Nepalese monk and experienced teacher who will be joining our staff in the latter half of 2012.

The job of SPC involves the following responsibilities:

• Foster FPMT Wisdom Culture
• Work harmoniously with the center director and resident teachers.
• Cooperatively plan spiritual programs and practices with the center director, resident and visiting teachers, and the FPMT Education Services Department.
• Manage the implementation of relevant FPMT standard programs and practices.
• Manage and support the volunteer program staff at the center.
• Ensure that teacher and Sangha protocols are understood and implemented.
• Manage the center’s spiritual resources.
• Cultivate harmony and hospitality.
• Be an example of Dharma practice.

A great variety of skills must be blended together to fill the role of SPC successfully. Preferred qualifications are as follows:

• passion for Dharma practice
• good team leadership and management skills
• spiritual program marketing experience
• writing skills
• financial management experience
• computer skills
• a sense of humor and positive attitude

The position requires approximately 20-30 hours of work per week. At this time this is a volunteer position. Once funding is in place, we aim to offer a stipend for the position. The job can be tailored to meet the various personal needs of interested applicants.

To inquire about the position or to apply, please send a resume detailing both your work and dharma background to [ email ]. Letters may be made to the attention of Rowena Mayer, Center Director, or Claudio Ruben, Board President.

Thank you.
