Thubten Norbu Ling is blessed to have the following teachers at our Center.

Geshe Thubten Sherab, Resident Geshe

 

Geshe Sherab was born in Manang/ Nepal in 1967 as second of 5 sons. He attended Kopan monastery at the age of 9  in around 1976/1977 and was ordained by Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche.​ After 10 years of study in Kopan, he went to Sera Je Monastery for further studies in 1987, and graduated as Geshe at the end of 1999. After that he joined Gyume Tantric College for a year. Then he taught young monks at Kopan for a year.​​​

In 2001 he was sent by Lama Zopa Rinpoche to New Mexico to serve and help at International Office of FPMT as well as teach at TNL in Santa Fe and Ksiti Garba Center in Taos as resident teacher. He also served as Board member of FPMT for 2 years during that period.​ By end of  2003 in December he returned back to Nepal to do his own practices. In 2006 he was appointed as Head Master of Kopan monastery and served for 4 years. He served at as acting Abbot for a year in 2011 when the late Guru Khensur Rinpoche Lama Lhundup became ill.

He has been teaching at Kopan during meditation courses as well as traveling and teaching around the world, in US, Canada, many parts of Europe, Asia, Mexico, Guatamala and Australia.​​

Don Handrick, Resident Teacher

 

Don is the resident teacher at TNL, and he teaches for the FPMT at the Ksitigarbha Tibetan Buddhist Center in Taos, NM. Don also serves as a Buddhist teacher for Liberation Prison Project, which includes teaching Buddhism at a local prison in New Mexico. Don's study and practice of Buddhism began in 1993 when he read The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche. Over the next two years he practiced with Rigpa, Sogyal Rinpoche's organization, until he began attending classes with Venerable Robina Courtin at Tse Chen Ling, the FPMT center in San Francisco.​

At the beginning of 1998, Don left the Bay Area to attend the FPMT's Masters Program of Buddhist Studies. in Sutra and Tantra, a full-time seven-year residential study program in Tuscany, Italy, taught by the incomparable scholar and kind Spiritual Friend, Geshe Jampa Gyatso. By 2004, he successfully completed all five subjects of the program and received an FPMT final certificate with high honors. Soon after, Don moved to Santa Fe and served as the Spiritual Program Coordinator for TNL, and in 2006 he was appointed Resident Teacher.​​​

Don has received teachings from many esteemed and precious lamas in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Ribur Rinpoche, Choden Rinpoche, and Khensur Jampa Tegchok. TNL is extremely fortunate to have such a qualified and hard working teacher, whose humility, kindness and clarity of instruction make him an invaluable resource for our center.​​​
